DESCRIPTION
The 2024 Australian Lunar Series III Year of the Dragon 10oz Gold Bullion Coin is an impressive large-format gold release celebrating the fifth animal of the Chinese zodiac. Struck by The Perth Mint from 10 troy ounces of 99.99% pure gold, this substantial bullion coin combines exceptional precious metal content with internationally recognised Australian minting craftsmanship.
Designed by Ing Ing Jong, the reverse portrays a Chinese mythical dragon surrounded by stylised waves and fog, representing the dragon's traditional association with command over the elements. The design also incorporates the Chinese character for “Dragon”, the inscription “DRAGON 2024” and a special “P125” mintmark commemorating The Perth Mint's 125th anniversary.
In Chinese tradition, the Dragon is associated with bravery, ambition, intelligence and good fortune. As part of The Perth Mint's acclaimed Australian Lunar Series III, the 2024 release combines meaningful Lunar symbolism with the intrinsic value of substantial physical gold ownership.
The obverse bears the Jody Clark Memorial Obverse of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by the dates of her reign, “1952–2022”, together with the coin's weight, purity and AUD $1,000 monetary denomination.
For additional security, the coin incorporates a micro-laser engraved authentication feature designed to make counterfeiting more difficult. Each coin is presented in a protective acrylic capsule.
